What colour should dress shirts be?

Dress shirts should be white because their purpose is to act as a solid background to your formal suit, without distracting from it. If you want something different, you can opt for a pleated shirt for a stylish twist to your outfit.

What should I be looking for when I buy a dress shirt?

First of all, you need a dress shirt made of quality cotton, as it’ll absorb the sweat and maintain a sense of comfort. Our shirts also have a tiny bit of elastan for stretch to ensure the ideal fit. Secondly, you want it to be white, with double cuffs so you can personalise your look with the cufflinks of your choice or the free cufflinks we include with every suit. Finally, if you’re wearing a bow tie or cravat, you need wing tips in the collar.

Which collar should I choose for my dress shirt?

This depends on the type of tie you’ll be wearing. Bow ties and cravats need a wing tip collar, preferably a “double” one that hides the straps, whereas plain ties go well with a kent collar.

Should dress shirts come with studs or hidden buttons?

Both studs and hidden buttons are suitable options for dress shirts and a lot depends on the overall suit style. E.g. for a classic black tie look, i.e. a tuxedo, a white shirt with black studs is ideal but, if you’ll be wearing a nehru suit with a strong pattern, it’s best to pair it with a plain white shirt with hidden buttons.
