Fabrics for Tailored Waistcoats

Our Made to Measure Atelier works with a collection of exclusive fabrics from top-end mills. You can take your pick from a range of options including pure wool, alpaca, mohair, cashmere, silk blends and linen, in a variety of colours. After selecting the fabric, you can pair it with one of our fabulous linings in a colour, pattern or print of your choice. If you’re not sure what works best, our designer will be happy to advise based on the time of year, seasonal trends and any specific requirements you may have.

Tailoring a Waistcoat: The Process

  1. Consultation: The process begins with a 90’ consultation with our fashion designer. You’ll discuss your specific requirements and then we’ll create a design based on your style preferences, the time of year and the occasion you’ll be wearing your tailored waistcoat in. The last step is taking your measurements.
  2. Fitting: After 4 weeks, your tailored waistcoat will be ready and you’ll be invited for a fitting. If it’s exactly as you’d like, you can collect on the day. Otherwise, our tailors will complete any final adjustments in up to 10 working days.
  3. Collection: When the final fitting is done, your tailored waistcoat will be ready for collection and our designer will be happy to provide styling suggestions so you can make the most out of it.

FAQs - Tailored Waistcoats

Is a tailored waistcoat worth the money?

Ready to Wear garments can be a great choice but there are limitations when it comes to personalisation and fit. Made to Measure garments start off an existing block which is then personalised just for you. They provide better fit without the multiple appointments and extremely high costs of bespoke tailoring.

Do I need a waistcoat with my suit?

We prefer 3 piece suits, which include a waistcoat, because you will look dapper even when you remove the jacket. Waistcoats can also work independently, e.g. with chinos or even jeans to elevate your look. They’re a versatile wardrobe piece and it’s a great idea to have a few tailored waistcoats in different colours and designs that you can match with various outfits.

Can I start with a tailored waistcoat and then make a suit?

Of course, our Made to Measure service is very flexible so you can create a full suit or individual garments to mix and match. Also, you can start with a waistcoat and, provided the fabric is still available, you can make a full suit at a later date.

Do you have patterned linings?

We work with a broad selection of fabrics, linings, buttons and threads. This includes linings in a range of colours, patterns and prints, so you can create a tailored waistcoat that expresses your individuality.
